Then and Now – A House with Soul
For generations, the Franzelin family has shaped the heart of Aldein – with a sense of the essential and deeply rooted in rural tradition. Their ethos is reflected in every corner of the Krone – from the kitchen to the atmosphere. Today, host Georg manages the hotel with passion and a fine sense for wine, alongside his wife Katarina, the calm center. Brother Peter tends to the family’s own farm and livestock, while mother Alberta works in the kitchen with dedication.

A house with character. With history. And with an iron crown that has symbolized constancy and hospitality for generations. Already in the 16th century, the Krone in Aldein was mentioned as an inn – a place of rest, encounter, and warmth.
- 1719–1746: Hans Franzelin and Agatha Dipaulin operate two inns simultaneously. Hans is also a sacristan, and from 1735, a lawyer with his own coat of arms and seal.
- 1746–1781: Son Gall Franzelin takes over the business with Anna Maria Pernwangerin. After a fire in 1779, the inn is temporarily moved to Mr. Goldrainer’s fresh dwelling.
- 1781–1803: Andrä Franzelin continues to run the business, also as innkeeper at Weißenstein.
- 1803–1830: Joseph Franzelin and Rosina Waldner, as well as Mathias Amplatz from Kalditlsch, take over the house.
- 1830–1843: Managed by Joseph Franzelin and Maria Ludwig.
- 1843–1854: Widow Maria Ludwig and her second husband Peter Gallmetzer manage the inn.
- 1854–1871: Andrä Franzelin – “Innkeeper at the Krone” – hosts guests together with Anna Dipauli.
- Century: The house is modernized with sensitivity. In the 1960s, a new counter is installed, but later removed to reveal the historical character once again. Old cobblestone floors and a precious tiled stove are restored – witnesses to history, carefully brought into the present.
- Today: Gasthof Krone is a vibrant place for reflection, culinary culture, and history. Where merchants once rested, today nature travelers, gourmets, and culture enthusiasts experience the soul of South Tyrol – in a house that makes the past palpable.
